The Joy of Salvation, Here on Earth

By Doug Harrell

We most often think of the joy of salvation being in the eternal realm but I truly believe there is joy here in our earthly home that only comes with salvation.  God’s word is so true when it states that our lives are as vapor here on this earth, especially when you reach the age that some of us have been fortunate to reach.  Our lives here on earth can be a living hell or I do believe that we can have a little taste of heaven here on earth.

What really makes the difference in our earthly walk?  Is it money?, is it fame?, is it possessions?  I really don’t think it is any of these, even though having enough does contribute to our sense of security.  As our children were growing up they were preached to constantly about getting a case of the DRT’s, that stands for “Doing Right Things”.  When we get up each morning and look in the mirror, who do we see?  We know if we have been good or bad, done good things or bad things, and we will feel either good or bad, depending to a large degree on the decisions we are making.  A great deal of happiness comes from how we see ourselves, our attitude is 98% of our happiness, and in most situations, our attitude is the result of our actions.

Our actions come as a result of the decisions we make each and every day of our lives, and those decisions are a result of our moral beliefs. Our moral beliefs are a result of our relationship with our Heavenly Father.  When we put off the old man and put on the new we become a new creature“If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
Ephesians 4:21-24 KJV.

When you follow the teaching of Christ, you will make the decisions that make for heaven here on earth.  That does not mean that there will not be many challenges and hardships here on earth, but you will be given the strength to handle them.  You will have the ability to feel secure in the relationship that surpasses all other relationships.  Your relationships here on earth will be based on truth and honesty.  Our divorce rate would be slashed if couples would truly turn their relationship over to the Lord and make him the guiding light.  There is a piece of heaven in a great marriage relationship based on the principles of God.  There would be an abundance of jail cells available if the teachings of our Lord were followed.  We, as parents, need to teach, preach and illustrate to our children each day the difference that our lives will have if we “Do the Right Things” daily.  We will truly have heaven or hell here on earth, depending on our decisions day to day.  The absolute guide to use is the true word of our Lord and Savior and in our unswaying relationship with Jesus Christ our redeemer.

“For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.”
Obadiah 1:15 KJV
