The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows his handiwork. (Psalm 19:1)
I have always been fascinated with the heavens. As a young boy, I can remember staring into the heavens and being so amazed at the beauty, the vastness and the expanse of them. How amazing! A moon rise coming up out of the water, a starry night or a sunrise or sunset all speak to the magnificence of creation.
But, the mountains aren’t half bad either. And, they have already begun their annual “show”. Here, in later September, the colors have already begun to become vibrant. The reds, yellows and oranges will make the mountains appear as if a beautiful hand-made quilt were draped across them.
Yet, as beautiful as all of this is, there is One behind all of this that is so much more amazing, beautiful and special!
A hermeneutical principal I learned in seminary is, “that which is created is always significantly less than the one who created it.” My wife makes a spectacular pound cake. It takes almost an hour to get it ready for the oven and another hour or so to cook it. When it is cooking our whole home smells wonderful. When the cake comes out of the oven, it truly is a site to behold. And the taste…..O my!
Yet she is so much more special than the cake for many, many reasons. One being, once I eat the cake it is gone. She, on the other hand, can make more cakes. Therefore, for that simple reason alone she is much more significant and special than that one cake.
A simple illustration, I know, but one which serves to make my point. The heavens, the mountains, the oceans, or a baby all are absolutely incredible. Yet, behind all of these is One who is absolutely so much more amazing!
He did not have to make the mountains so colorful. Neither did He have to make the starry night so incredible. Or, a moon rise or sun rise so spectacular. Yet He did, and it was no problem for Him to do so at all.
Remember, that which is created is always significantly less than the one who created it. He, our God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, is so much more amazing, so much more incredible and so much more special than the objects of His creation.
And, His heart is on us. My first grandbaby is now 3 months old. And I think he is very special. He has my heart wrapped around his tiny fingers. I would do anything for him.
Our God will do anything we need Him to do for us. He incredibly loves us! He always wants the very best for us. He is always giving us spectacular gifts.
Do you know Him? If not, why not accept Him today? If you do know Him, rest in His care. He is for you, not against you. He loves you with an everlasting and amazing love! Rejoice in this. And, as the mountains get so much prettier over the next few weeks, enjoy. Our God did all of this!
