An Amazing Gift
Pastor Dan Qurollo
This time of year often brings a variety of emotions. For those who have lost loved ones or experienced separation, this season is a painful reminder of things they used to enjoy but are suddenly no longer able to enjoy. For, far too many, this season is dreaded because of the stress that it all entails. Others seem totally unaffected by it, while children often find themselves battling anticipation of finally being able to open their gifts. Sadly, many Christians have lost the wonder of this time of year.
For believers, this time of year should truly be something special. The more I ponder the amazing gift of Jesus Christ, the more amazed I am. I am amazed at the conditions into which the Savior was born. Though He is God, He was born in deplorable conditions. Yet His entrance into this world in such a fashion serves to remind us that He is indeed the Savior of all men.
I am amazed at the statement made by the angel to Joseph in Matthew 1:23: “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” What an incredible thought that God would dwell with those who would reject Him. Jesus was no ordinary baby; He came as God in human flesh.
I challenge you to make a conscious effort to set aside time to quietly ponder the true nature of Christmas. Determine that this year will not be another year filled with stress, frustration, and anxiety; God never intended the season to be such. Reflect on the various scenes of Scripture and place yourself near the manger. Worship the One worthy of our praise, and you too will be amazed at all this season offers.
