I Know Who Holds Tomorrow

By Bruce Cannon

As this article is read the New Year will most likely have already come.  The previous year will have passed, and we will be facing many challenges and opportunities ahead. I am so thankful that while we do not know what tomorrow holds, we know who holds tomorrow.    This is the message of the song: I Know Who Holds Tomorrow by Alison Krauss

I don’t know about tomorrow;  I just live from day to day.
I don’t borrow from it’s sunshine,  For it’s skies may turn to grey.
I don’t worry o’er the future, For I know what Jesus said.
And today I’ll walk beside, Him, For He knows what is ahead.

Many things about tomorrow, I don’t seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow, And I know who holds my hand.

Our Heavenly Father knows everything and is already in our tomorrows readying grace, arranging circumstances and will be our merciful and faithful High Priest when the trials or hardships of life come.

Our world is constantly changing.  Leonard Sweet, Christian futurist, made the following comment, “If you were born before the year 1960 the world you were born in no longer exists.”  He is referring to those values once held dear being cast aside by so many, so quickly.  Things such as absolute truth, strong work ethics, integrity, honesty, respect for authority and so forth are some of those things of which he speaks.

While some changes are good, many are not.  Recent news stories substantiate my point.  For instance, the news articles dated December 2018 state that Asheville, NC is readying itself for the sale of recreational marijuana.  Recreational marijuana is already being sold in ten states with thirty-three selling medicinal marijuana.

My wife and I recently traveled to Colorado to visit the Rocky Mountain National Park.  We saw some of the most beautiful sights created by our God.  But, we also saw marijuana sales outlets in what seemed like every town…..even the smallest of towns got in on the action.  I cannot imagine what western North Carolina would be like with recreational marijuana sales.  What a tragedy that would be!

According to the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL), state legislators in twenty-one more states considered bills in 2018 that would legalize adult-use marijuana for recreational purposes.   Twenty-two states and the District of Columbia have decriminalized small amounts of marijuana with North Carolina being one of the twenty-two.

2019– what are you going to bring our way?  Will it be a further distancing from God?  Or, will it bring revival to His Church?  Pray with me for the latter.  Indeed, the need for the Church to be what the Lord intended it to be has never been greater!

What is the answer?  Prayer! A genuine spiritual awakening!  A powerful move of God upon our state and national leaders!   We must claim and practice passages such as II Chronicles 7:14 and God will hear our prayers, forgive our sins and heal our land.
