Be Still and Know That I Am God

We all feel overwhelmed at times.  If you are like me, being overwhelmed seems to be a part of my daily schedule and is mostly of my own doing.  I find myself taking on too much work or responsibility.  Often just the daily routine of work, school, friends, and family can become a bit overwhelming.  We often let all these responsibilities pile up on us to the point that it seems unmanageable.  Sometimes we are faced with situations, whether it be sickness, financial trouble, family troubles, loss of a loved one, etc. where life seems unbearable!  How do we press on? Where do we find refuge?  The answer is God, Our Father!

The Bible speaks of Jesus feeling overwhelmed just before his crucifixion.  Jesus was distressed, troubled, and overwhelmed.  But Jesus took the burdens to His Father.  What an awesome model!  We, in troubled times, can also take our burdens to Our Heavenly Father.  God is a God of peace.  True peace from the troubles and temptations of this world comes from a relationship with God.  In order to have that peace, we must be still, wait, and listen to the Father.  In Psalms 46:10, He says, “Be still and know that I am God, I will be exalted among the nations, and I will be exalted in the earth.”  Exodus 14:14, The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

In the hectic world that we live in, it’s often hard to slow down long enough to appreciate the presence of God.  As I grow in my faith, “Let go and Let God” take control, and spend time in prayer and stillness with God, peace abounds my soul and my hope is for Him.  In the stillness of God, I can breathe, my faith is recharged, and my troubles seem to perish.  I find rest in the presence and stillness of God. Sometimes we may need to remove ourselves from a situation, decrease our workload, or realize that it’s okay to let go of some responsibility for a while.  Whatever the case may be, we need to continually rely on God’s strength and pray for peace.  Psalms 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”  Do not let the troubles of this world overwhelm you; fight your battles in the stillness of God.
