There was Jesus

Mitchell CountyChristy Young There Was Jesus

Recently our Sunday school class discussed the many times that Jesus has shown up in our lives.  I began to think about how special the presence of Jesus has been in my life.  Too many times we forget how He shelters and protects us from harm, removing the obstacles in front of us.  As I began to meditate on the goodness of God, I was reminded of so many times that God has shown up in such uncertain circumstances.

In January 2007, my husband had an accident.  He was run over by a farm tractor.  I can remember so very clearly getting the call that he was being airlifted, I began to pray to ask God to look over him and “There was Jesus” comforting and looking over him.  Psalms 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”  He was our strength and refuge and saw us through.

I had an uncle that was lost.  He had never accepted Jesus as his savior.  For many, many years I begged, pleaded and prayed that God would save him.  Unfortunately, Michael passed away six years ago.  But a couple of days before he passed “There was Jesus”.  Michael asked Jesus into his heart.  Praise the Lord, I have the assurance that I will see him again!!!

For over ten years, my brother struggled with addiction.  After many years of heartache and pain, I had almost given up on ever seeing Joshua clean again…. But, “There was Jesus”.  God had big plans to use Joshua to minister to others.

Even amid our pain, God is always working.  He always shows up right on time.  I often think about Lazarus being raised from the dead.  When all hope was gone “There was Jesus”.   John 11:11 says, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going to wake him up.”  Mary thought Jesus was too late, but it was all in His time.  Our country is somewhat like Lazarus, we have gone to “sleep”.  Desperately awaiting an awakening from the Master.  We are facing some uncertain circumstances in the world today.  We are living in a world of fear and dishonor to God’s word and teachings.  Prayer has been taken out of school and Jesus is no longer welcome in many of our homes.   Our country has become complacent to sin and justifies all that God teaches against.  My heart breaks!  Matthew 24:12 says, “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold”.  Our only hope for this country is Jesus and the assurance that He will return someday.  What a glorious day that will be when I can say, “THERE IS JESUS”.
