Be The Light in a Dark World

By Doug Harrell

Mitchell Countybe the light in a dark world

As you are reading this we are in the month of December, the month that we celebrate the birth of Jesus our Savior, the month that we should be proclaiming joy to the world. Instead, many of us are facing the month with fear in our hearts and minds.  We are worried about COVID-19, we are worried about being with our families, especially those that are confined in nursing homes and hospitals where we are not allowed because of the virus.  We are afraid to go to our house of worship, sometimes because of governmental regulations that prohibit our going, and at times because we fear the virus.  Fear that our government is not being truthful with our elections, that our leaders are heading down the wrong path, and that we cannot trust them or our media.  Living in constant fear is not how God wants us to live and face life, He wants peace in our hearts, minds, and soul.

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”  Isaiah 41:10 KJV

In times of darkness all around us, we need to strive to be the light for others.  I truly believe that now is one of the greatest opportunities to be a witness that you and I have ever had.  Have you ever sat outside on a dark night around a blazing fire and watched the flames leap into the air, and be drawn closer to the flame to feel the warmth that is radiating from it?  I am sure that most of us have had that experience.  Now is the time to be the light in the lives around us that draw people to us. When people are hurting is the time that they are looking for answers and the best answer in the universe is trust and faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Be the lighthouse that guides those around you in your daily walk today.  If you are a born-again Christian you should be a full-time missionary for Christ, and do that where you are planted.  You do not have to go to a foreign country, just step out your door and bring the light of Jesus with you to your workplace, your friends, and neighbors.

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”  Matthew 5:14-16 KJV

Imagine being in a dark room and you are the one with the lamp.  You trim the wick and light it and make sure that the globe is clear and clean so the light will shine on those around you.  They will come to the light.  In the scripture we see the great commission to go forth and testify to all the world that they may know Jesus.  The word “go” in the Hebrew and Greek language means in your walk not to travel afar.  Determine that in this world of doubt and uncertainty, you will like a tree planted by the river, that you will bear good fruit and stand strong against the winds of evil that might be brewing all around you.

“Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.”  1 Corinthians 16:13 KJV

May your Christmas be blessed with the warmth and love of Jesus surrounding each of you and your families this joyful time of the year, God Blessings to each of you. Be the LIGHT OF JESUS in your personal world.
