31 Days of Repentance

Day 7:  Forgive Me for not Showing Hospitality.

My Daddy was in the hospital, fighting the terrible disease of cancer.  One morning, the nurse brought his breakfast and left it on a tray.  My Dad had been a strong, healthy man for most of his life.  But now, his hands were so damaged, he was unable to open the items that lay on his breakfast tray.  Pastor Steve, my pastor, went to visit Dad, and he arrived before my Mom did that morning.  After speaking to Dad, he noticed the untouched breakfast tray.  “Chris, are you hungry?”, my pastor asked.  Dad replied, “Yes.”  So Pastor Steve began to open the untouched food, and he fed him.

As I write this, tears still fill my eyes.  That is one of the most beautiful pictures of hospitality I have ever seen.  “Hospitable” in Webster’s dictionary is defined as “treating guests with warmth and generosity; receptive.”  While this is a good definition, I believe showing true hospitality is when we minister to others as if they were JESUS Himself or treating others as JESUS would treat them.

Let’s remember that today.  Be willing to do a task that no one else wants to do.  The feeling you have will surprise you.  Joy will flood your heart, and it will definitely humble you, as well.

Challenge:

* Think and pray about something you can do for a friend or neighbor to show hospitality.  Go a step further and ask GOD to show you someone who may not be able to repay your kindness.
