It’s Just Not Fair!

By Dan Qurollo

Burke County

it's just not fairI can still hear my daughters seeing something and exclaiming, “Daddy, it’s not fair!” Oftentimes, they had a legitimate point, and they would hear me say, “Life isn’t fair.” You have probably heard a similar statement and have most likely made the statement yourself. I have to confess that I battle this very reality as an adult. In my mind, it seems that many travesties of justice are ignored, dishonest people are rewarded, and the righteous are mistreated. I want to cry out, “It’s just not fair!”

David faced a similar challenge in his life, a challenge he expresses frequently throughout the book of Psalms. One such psalm is Psalm 10 where David perceives that God is aloof. Have you ever felt that way? Has it ever seemed that God is not near when you need Him? David explained that the wicked are persecuting the poor. Their wickedness infiltrates every aspect of their lives. They foolishly conclude, “God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it” (10:11).

But as David concludes, He is reminded, “The LORD is King for ever and ever” (10:16). Regardless of what man attempts to do, we must always remember that God is still on the throne. God has not lost His grip on the events of the world, nor are things spinning wildly out of control. God knows! This truth should serve to strengthen our hearts and encourage us to remain faithful.

Furthermore, the day is coming when God will be sure that the wrongs are made right.  David continued, “LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear: 18 To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress” (10:17-18).

When you are tempted to think, “It’s just not fair,” remember God is still on the throne and righteousness will prevail. God knows!
