Mary: Always at the feet of Christ

In Luke 10 we read of Jesus traveling through a village called Bethany. There he met three siblings: Lazarus, Martha, and Mary. He must have developed a rather quick, but deep relationship with the three. I say this because the death of Lazarus was one of only a few occasions where we read of Jesus mourning (here over the loss of his friend.)
But it’s Mary I want to look at. She is mentioned three times in Scripture. Each time she is positioned at the feet of Jesus. First when she meets Jesus in Luke 10. Mary here is just going about her daily activities when she hears the words of Jesus and is enthralled, she sits at His feet in rapt attention.
Next, we see her in a time of desperation. Her brother is deathly sick and she sends word to Jesus to come quickly. By the time Jesus arrives, Lazarus has been dead for four days. (The Jews believed at that time that the spirit sat beside the body for three days in hopes of reuniting with the body-therefore the four-day delay may have been intended to convince all of the certainty of Lazarus’ death). Nevertheless, in Mary’s grief, we see her again fall at the feet of Jesus (John 11:32).
Finally, we see Mary, with a premonition of Jesus’ death, fall again at his feet out of devotion and anoint him with his burial oil. (Mark 14:3).
From her life, we can learn to fall at Jesus’ feet no matter the circumstances we are experiencing. We often feel devotion to Him while we are worshipping in Church, and that’s wonderful. But do we turn to him during times of devastation in our lives, or like some, do we turn our backs on Him—even blaming Him? Finally, do we worship Him during our daily activities? Do you set aside daily a time of devotion where you can sit at the feet of Christ and read His Word and marvel at the blessings He showers on you daily?
Be like Mary. Be at the feet of Christ regardless of what life throws at you!
