McDowell Substance Use Coalition
Freedom Life is now serving as the backbone organization in support of the McDowell Substance Use Coalition (MSUC), formerly known as the McDowell Substance Use Workgroup. MSUC was formulated several years ago out of great work done within our community through the McDowell Health Coalition. From its first full year of operation in 2013, Freedom Life has been part of MSUC’s effort to help bring a greater understanding of, connection to, and solutions for individuals within our community who struggle with substance use disorder and other addiction needs. This effort includes working together with the community in creating immediate help, resourcing, and treatment support for individuals and family’s struggling with addiction as well as creating effective programs for prevention and recovery sustainability. Through a grant provided by Kate B. Reynolds, Freedom Life and MSUC are currently working with the North Carolina Institute for Public Health to provide research, data, and strategic plan formulation to organizational capacity development and community engagement programming. Please pray the God will grant the wisdom needed for Freedom Life and MSUC in this critical community opportunity, and that He will move powerfully over the lives of those within our community who wrestle so deeply with substance misuse and addiction struggles.

Jason Wallace – Freedom Life’s Car Giveaway
Jason is the newest recipient of Freedom Life’s Car giveaway! When asked what FL means to him. Jason says, “Freedom Life has given me the opportunity to fix my life in a healthy and spiritual way, that will last, and it has
provided me help spiritually, physically, emotionally and financially.” While Jason was incarcerated, Heart Cry came in December 2019 and shared a song that touched his heart so much, that it made Jason want to make a change. The song was called “40 Days and 40 Nights.” Jason says within his first hour of being released from prison, the Parole Officer dropped him off at the front door of Freedom Life. He then began his new journey, by taking Cognitive Behavior Classes, attending Men’s Bible Study, and started a job at Marion Fabric and Upholstery. Jason’s story is one of many that Freedom Life touches.
