A Day in the Life

I awoke to the sound of a crashing knock on my door! Cobwebs in my brain as I scrambled to get decent and stumble to the door. Through the peephole, I observed what appeared to be two law enforcement personnel with stern looks awaiting me to open the door. As soon as the door was open enough, a gruff and menacing voice belted out “Why was your smartphone turned off last night?” Fearfully, I replied I didn’t know it was off and that the battery must have died. The second officer threatened to arrest me if it happens again. Reminding me the law now states, for monitoring purposes, every citizen’s phone must remain on at all times. Seizing the opportunity, the first officer shoved his phone in my face and asked if I had seen this heretic. The man’s picture was my neighbor from three doors down. I asked why and the answer was for unlawful religious behavior. I thought to myself that this neighbor seemed to be the best of us in his Christ-like lifestyle so what could he have done wrong?
After this very intimidating start to my day, I got ready and headed off to work. In the sky above me, drones everywhere watching every move made on the ground. After parking my car and nearly to the door of my office building, I witnessed a man standing a few feet away with a drone hovering immediately in front of his face. A voice issued from this mechanical beast and questioned the man about certain actions. Apparently, the answer was unsatisfactory as a small dart shot him quickly in the neck. He passed out to the ground and in just minutes, a police car whipped up and carried him away. Before I could finally make my way into my office, I saw the image on the jumbo screens we were all required to worship. The technology having been reversed so anyone refusing could be spotted immediately and punished accordingly. The hideous image could also talk to people it saw on the very unnerving street. Those TVs that didn’t carry the image of the beast were broadcasting news about the innumerable disasters taking place around the world from wars to famines to civil unrest and so much more.
Once inside, the eyes of everyone seemed to watch each other with a complete lack of trust due to the recent insertion of citizen spies of which no one knew their identity until it was too late. The government provided a mandatory app on everyone’s smartphone with which they were to report any suspicious activity and/or person no matter how minor the infraction may seem to be. Especially anyone who refused to bow down to that image being broadcast everywhere or refused the established religion. Now that freedom is all but gone, I can’t help but feel like a bird in a cage. World War 3 has already begun and the destruction is mind-numbing. Hard to fathom with all this technology how starvation and disease could be so rampant. We all thought this one world government and religion was going to be the best thing since sliced bread seeing how it was brought in under the guise of world peace. But it’s the complete opposite. Everything action, word, and seemingly our thought processes as well monitored so fear is on every side. No one dares resist the power that now reigns worldwide. The only people who seem to have any hope left are the ones who call themselves true Christians but they are hunted like dangerous fugitives. They seem to have this unexplained power with their words which really makes the authorities very nervous. It seems like the end of the world is upon us from what I remember reading in my bible which is outlawed now. God have mercy on us all.
