CK’s response to a secularist who fears Christians want a Christian Theocracy.

___________, I am persuaded that the greater part of America no longer understands the good fortune that they have inherited by living in a Constitutional Republic and a nation that has a Christian foundation. Here are some thoughts that may be of interest to you:

1. I try to see God's purposes in history, especially in the unique history of America starting at Apostle Paul's dream (60 AD) to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to Macedonia. He tried to take the gospel to Asia, points south and east, but was prevented by the Holy Spirit. Over the generations it eventually went to Greece, Spain, France, Germany, England and then to America. This was not an accident in history. Secular historians are incapable of understanding the wonders of God's purposes in history because they don't consider His plan of redemption throughout the Ages for all mankind. America was especially blessed because we incorporated 'inalienable rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness' into our Declaration of Independence. We also believed these rights came from God (for all mankind to enjoy) and that America would be the shinning nation on a hill for all the world to see. Secularist can't understand these ideas and find themselves focusing on the events, causes and effects of nations.
2. The correct way to understand Article I and the protections we have to free speech is to realize:

a) The Founders wanted our posterity to have the God given right to speak the truth, not deceptions, disinformation and propaganda that more often than not comes from the left. The idea that Marxist socialism, which is a rejection of the existence of God and is dominating the democrat party, has the same value as conservative Christian teachings is NUTS. Literally all the Delegates at the 1787 Constitutional Convention were God fearing men and virtually all of them were professing Christians. When they drafted the 1st Amendment, they acknowledged that each man has the right to believe what their consciences dictate. However, they never intended that our Constitution and Christian heritage would be considered no better than Islam, Hindi, Buddha, Nazism, Communism, etc. Men of other religions have been given the right (by Christian men) to believe what they want, but they were never given the right to usurp the authority of our Christian faith from our people and nation.
b) Because Americans incorporated Biblical values into our institutions, Churches, government, judiciary, monuments, books, etc., we became a special nation to the Lord because His purposes are being accomplished through America’s 300,000 Churches, 400,000 preachers, 18,000 missionaries, thousands of charities, unwavering defense of Israel and more. In fact, America has become the bulwark for all freedom loving peoples because God made us the richest, most powerful, and politically influential nation on the planet. America’s might was responsible for: 1) helping the Allies win two World Wars, 2) destroying Nazi Germany and the empire of Japan, and 3) stopping Stalinist Russia and Mao Tse Tung in Communist China (both having caused the slaughter of 100+ million people in the 20th Century) from their Communist expansionist plans to dominate all nations during the Cold War. We never conquered a nation to subjugate them to our will, but rather allowed them to establish their own governments so they can live as a free people. I am persuaded that these truths are worth bragging on and thanking the Lord for, not denigrating.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; AND THE PEOPLE WHOM HE HATH CHOSEN FOR HIS OWN INHERITANCE.” (Psalms 33:12)

“And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;” (Acts 17:26)

America is not an accident in history. We are an unworthy people who have believed that Jesus Christ is the Savior and Lord for all who humbly come to Him for forgiveness of their sins. Our Christian heritage, which came from England, taught us who the Son of God is (Jesus Christ) and that He is not equal to, but superior to all others.
c) Your fear that Christians today want to set up a Theocracy is ill conceived. As explained above, Christians created the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Bill of Rights to prevent men from forming a theocracy in America. Our ancestors come to America to escape Monarchies and Theocratic governments in Europe. You would do well to brag on the liberties and freedoms God gave you rather than joining with secular voices who decry Christians.

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

“And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, SIRS, WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.” (Acts 16:27-34)
