Changing Culture by Sharing our Faith

By Rev. John B. Sorensen

There’s been a lot of talk lately about the direction our country is taking. I’m sure you would agree that a lot has changed in the last several decades – and not necessarily for the better. Today, I can’t help but think about how some people are trying to change our culture – deleting any reference to our Christian heritage.

Our culture is changing, but there’s something we, as Christians, can do to change it for the better. We can share the Gospel!

I know that sounds simplistic but think about it. Faith in Jesus Christ changes everything. It changes what we value, how we spend our time, and where we spend our money. It even changes how we vote. Everything we do can become sanctified through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Millions of people around the world are coming to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ every year because of someone, just like you and me, stepped out of our comfort zones to share the Gospel with them. Millions! Imagine for a moment what could happen if every believer led at least one person to Christ this year. How would that change our neighborhoods? Our cities? Our nation?

C.S. Lewis once said, “The most significant political act that any Christian can take is, to convert his neighbor.” He understood that once someone’s heart is genuinely changed, everything else soon follows.

How do we do that? Take a step of faith and begin that spiritual conversation. There’s no right or wrong way to begin. At EE, we use questions like, “If you were to die today, would you know for sure that you would be with God in Heaven?” Or, “On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your spiritual life?” Or even, “How is your spiritual life today?” Listen to what they have to say, and then share the Good News of the Gospel.

Transforming culture happens one person at a time. But it won’t happen at all if we don’t step out and share about the One Person who transformed us, Jesus Christ. The Gospel was never meant to be kept silent. It was meant to be shared!

So, if you are concerned about the direction of America, share the Gospel. If you’re concerned about what kind of country your children and grandchildren will grow up in, share the Gospel! It’s the surest way I know to leave a godly legacy for future generations.
