No Regrets Family-In the Palm of His Hand

By Pastor Dean Honeycutt

The Bible asks the question “how can two walk together unless they agree”? And the answer is– they cannot. It is very difficult if not impossible for two opposing ideas to come together in the middle unless one or both parties give in. And that is where we are in America, we have two opposing ideas or ideologies that cannot meet in the middle. Jesus talked about this when he said, “you cannot serve two masters you will either love one and hate the other, or you will hold to one and despise the other.” (Matthew 6:24)

When I was growing up, I never thought about politics or a Biblical Worldview. I am sure there was as much conflict in the world when I was a child as there is now. But honestly, I have never seen a time America was so divided and torn. Secularization has torn our country apart. It has removed our pulpits from a place of influence. We have watered down our Biblical moorings and foundational heritage so much that we do not know who we are or what we stand for. We have lost our way. The Bible warns of immorality and apathy. Hebrews 2:1 (KJV 1900)

“Therefore, we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.”

We Christian people and the Church have let our spiritual and Biblical moorings slip. I cannot change what is going on in our government, but I can change what is going on in my life and the life of my family. I can give “more earnest heed” to what I know to be true and honest, and faithful. America is sliding, we are slipping away from God.

In Numbers 14 after being led out of a 430-year bondage in Egypt, Moses sent 12 spies into Canaan, the “land that flows with milk and honey” the promised land for the children of Israel. When they returned to Kadesh, Caleb wanted to go up at once and conquer the land and possess it as God had promised, but the others said we are not able to go up against this people because they are stronger than we are. We have two opposing views here and there is no middle ground. Either obey God or disobey God.  The people began to murmur and complain against Moses and wanted to go back to Egypt, because they did not believe God.  The Bible warns us about unbelief. Hebrews 4:1 (KJV 1900)

“Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. “

Joshua and Caleb speak out and tell the people not to rebel against God, because God has removed the defense of the people of the land, and that God is with them. However, it was too late for the people of God. They provoked God to anger, and for forty years these unbelievers would wander in the wilderness until all were dead except their children and Joshua and Caleb. God honored the faithfulness of Moses, Joshua, and Caleb, but he judged the nation of Israel for their unbelief. We need to keep this in mind– God may honor our individual faithfulness, but is God pleased with America? Is America not like the “land that flows with milk and honey”– has not God blessed America? Could we all not suffer because of our blatant disobedience to God?

The Bible says in the Book of Hebrews these unbelievers did not enter God’s rest because of unbelief. Hebrews 3:18 (KJV 1900)

“18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter his rest, but to them that believed not?

Hebrews 3:19 (KJV 1900)

19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

God’s rest here is not the “Land of Canaan” but heaven and everlasting life. To enter God’s rest is to have eternal life. Hebrews 4:2 (KJV 1900)

For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Hebrews 4:9 (KJV 1900)

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.”

My heart’s desire was to write about the divisiveness and unrest we have in America today. Two opposing views on almost everything. America has turned her back on God. We have rejected God’s “rest” which is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have disobeyed God. My friend, America will never be great until God is Great in America. I am all for a wall to protect us from evil. But, America has built walls to keep God out. How can we ask God to bless our nation when we reject the grace of God in Christ Jesus? Hebrews 12:25 (KJV 1900)

“25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:”

My dear friend repent and turn to God. Take your family to church –be faithful to God. We are not called to change the world, we are called to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, so He can change our heart before God destroys this world. It is obvious that America is divided and “a house divided cannot stand.” Look to Jesus in these last days.  He is the author and finisher of your faith. The world may be in turmoil, but God holds it in the palm of His Hand.
