Standing on the Truth

By Christy Young

As we travel throughout this life, we are faced with daily choices.  How we respond to these choices allows us to either shine the light of Jesus in the situation or be defeated by the world.

We have allowed ourselves to be caught up in the devotion of what the world expects from us. We live our lives with the expectation of fitting in, belonging. Our energy, time, and money are devoted to the unfulfilled effort of appearance. We fall prey to the materialistic thought that by achieving rank, status, and material items that we somehow at last we will become fulfilled. Often after receiving some of or all of these things, we’re exhausted, unhappy, and miserable. Through our exhaustion, we realize that we are chasing a life of defeat.

Happiness only comes from total surrender to God. God has a solution to our problems that leads to satisfaction.  That satisfaction comes from a daily walk with Him. Allowing yourself to be “set apart” from the world. 1 Peter 2:9 says, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light”. We are chosen by God, how special is that! When we allow ourselves to commit and surrender to the calling that God has placed upon our lives we will be empowered to live our lives with boldness, patience, and grace. We will have a craving for the “divine light “that defeats the darkness of life. We become “peculiar people”. The world may refer to us as strange, odd, unusual, and “the ones who don’t fit in”. That’s perfectly fine! Our purpose for this life is to stand on the truth and the teaching of Jesus. Don’t get caught up in the way the world defines you. Remember that you are a project of the Master, you’re chosen by God, and have been called to do His work. Don’t ever judge yourself by the world’s standards, remind yourself that you are a unique possession of God. Live your life consistent with who you serve and always stand on the truth.
