In the month of November of each year we celebrate two very important holidays that remind us of our heritage and history.  Those things have become rather unimportant in the current atmosphere in our country today.  I would like to remind all of us that it is and has always been very important in our society.   We are so blessed to live in a country where we have the freedom to worship as we please.  A country where we can succeed or fail depending on ourselves and our circumstances.  Many of our young people in this country do not appreciate these freedoms because they have not been taught to appreciate heritage and history.  This month in our paper we have included the history of Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Day.

Veterans are the backbone of our freedom.  They have paid the price to keep this country free. Many paid the ultimate price.  And yet, today the military is mocked and made fun of and our flag is disrespected.  I for one am proud to stand tall and salute that flag that stands for our great country.  (see our history of Veterans Day on page 47 )

Thanksgiving Day had its beginnings when the country was not even a country.  It is such a blessing to be able to have the freedom to express our thanks to God for our blessings. In our family this is a sacred day when all of our family that can come, come together to share a meal, fellowship and a camaraderie that spans the generations.  We are now so large it takes 3 houses to accommodate three-fifths of our family.  But, nothing replaces the awesomeness of sitting in that community building an having each one tell us what they are thankful for this year.  This year will be even more nostalgic because we have lost our matriarch. Life goes on and we will cling ever closer and continue to teach our young ones the importance of our heritage.  (see our history of Thanksgiving Day on page 2)
