Image Overload

The people of the world today are fixated on images. When you consider television, social media, and even retail outlets, you are submerged in imagery. And if still photos weren’t enough, now practically everyone is a director of their own video productions. Since TikTok exploded onto the scene, every other social media site is scrambling to implement its own version of the same types of mini-video offering.

Based on some research I did for this particular article, many are facing image overload. In 2015, the average smartphone owner had at least 630 pictures stored on their phone. The average person spends 145 minutes per day on social media. On Facebook alone, 71.2% of posts are of images. The inundation of imagery in our society worldwide is astronomical! When you consider smartphones, computers, digital billboards, television (even on gas pumps!), and the like, it’s almost the equivalent of subliminal hypnosis. But what Christians forget is the spiritual ramifications of it all. My former pastor was a true prophet of God and he prophesied years ago about how, in today’s world, it would be a battle for the mind. And most people’s minds today, including Christians, are already gone almost! The best thing that could happen spiritually is an extended power outage. Sound crazy? Not as crazy as going to hell for eternity with the regret of all that digital idolatry that kept your mind and soul consumed for hours on end.

The devil knows the power of all this imagery and how closely related idolatry is to it. If I’ve told you once, it feels like I’ve told you 100 times, that the human mind is voracious in its hunger for new and different things. And if you aren’t transformed by the renewing of your mind in Christ Jesus like His Word teaches us, friend you stand a very good chance of missing God and dying and going to Hell for eternity. If this information steps on your toes then praise God because THE truth is supposed to offend your flesh; meaning your carnal thinking. The word of God, rightly divided, will cause your fleshly pride to swell up in you and what you do from that point is critical. Romans 12:2 “And be NOT conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

It takes time to grow a tree friend. All this imagery is a fulfilling of the scriptures and how the devil plans on controlling mankind before God cuts him off. Revelation 13:14-15 “And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an IMAGE to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the IMAGE of the beast, that the IMAGE of the beast should both speak, and CAUSE that as many as would NOT worship the IMAGE of the beast should be KILLED.” According to more of the same research aforementioned, image overload is a common problem resulting from all this technology. Remember the old days when you had to carry a camera, snap the pictures and wait for them to be developed? Much easier on the mind it was indeed.

Too much of any one thing is never a good thing; even for the Lord. Now before you rise up consider that, yes, God should be your first love and what you have the most of every day. But if you are too spiritual, you are no help in the work of the Lord and if you are too carnal, you are no help to God. In fact, God’s Word is the perfect balance and, if taught and learned properly, will help you to become properly balanced; with Him first and always in your life. Proverbs 11:1 “A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a JUST weight is his delight.”
