The Fear of God

By Todd Abraham

Athens, TennesseeTodd Abraham

The fear of God is in my soul,

Guarding me against sin which could write a sad story.

The power of God protects me; I’m His son,

Bound and determined to do everything I can for His glory.

The fear of God says to stay away from that My son,

The master deceiver is lurking just out of sight to fool you.

If the world is in it at all then best stay clear,

Or should you step in that direction the consequences you will rue?

The fear of God says never take for granted what He has given me,

Or else wind up like Esau who for all his tears couldn’t get back.

Buy the truth and sell it not His Word declares to us,

Because it’s your birthright, your blessing that will never lack.

The fear of God says watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation,

Knowing this flesh is weak indeed and we have no strength of our own.

Wisdom cries to us that in Him we live and move and have our being,

And if we don’t do all we can do first then in a moment, we could be gone.

The fear of God shows me how mighty men of valor have fallen and gone astray,

Solomon the richest, wisest man history ever did record.

If he didn’t have the strength to resist the devil and all his wiles,

Who do we think we are and what self-willed assumption do we think we can afford.

The fear of God is total respect knowing Who we should trust and depend on,

Always, like soldiers, taking heed with keen, ever diligent vigilance.

Being prudent according to the scripture which means watchful on all sides,

Realizing eternal life is the greatest gift of all if we’ll stay His course the distance.

The fear of God instructs me His love is such He’ll let us choose life or death,

Disobedience to His commandment which is His Word automatically bringing the latter.

As the Lord Himself so kindly showed us that the path to life is strait and narrow,

Should we fail, the flames of hell is eternal regret; oh what disaster.

The fear of God says to be presumptuous is near-certain destruction,

Never, my friend, take for granted that God owes you or me anything.

He’s already given His all on Calvary saying “It is finished” meaning the plan of salvation.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge; it is understanding.
