Pray and Put Holes in the Darkness

It was the evening of Tuesday, August 10th, and it looked like the rain may interfere with our prayer gathering at Riverside Park. Previously scheduled for 7:00 p.m., the prayer time was looking doubtful…yet, I felt no leading from The Holy Spirit to cancel or delay. That is our walk of faith…we don’t “look” with our eyes. We felt steady to go forward. The worst thing that could happen is that we would have to turn around and drive back home. So why not? Let’s go and see what happens. At 6:55 p.m., the sky cleared up, and the weather was absolutely beautiful…a gift from Our Heavenly FATHER!

This evening was about our students and a new school year. We want to encourage them and pray for them…all of them, from Head Start to college, whether it is Christian schools, public schools, or homeschools. The children and youth are facing issues this year that are different from any other year. And they really need our prayers, as well as all of the teachers, bus drivers, lunchroom workers, and administrations.

GOD is our help.

GOD is our only hope.

We are reminded of Daniel of The Bible. When Daniel was a youth, he was carried away into captivity by an evil nation. He had many chances to walk away from GOD and follow wickedness. But do you know what made all of the difference in Daniel’s life? Daniel 1:8 says, “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself…”! Daniel made up his mind that he was going to stay with GOD…no matter what! And because Daniel did walk with GOD every day, he was successful, and GOD took care of him! Franklin Graham wrote that we must make up our minds “not to accept the false narrative of a secular, atheistic culture. We have to make the Word of God our absolute source of truth”. He said we must spend time in prayer with GOD every day, as Daniel did. (Decision magazine July/August 2021)

So, children…parents…every morning, make up your mind that you are going to walk with GOD that day. Begin your day with prayer and read The Bible together before you go out the door. Read it at night before you go to bed. Determine to do this every day. Ask The LORD to fight your battles. Exodus 14:14 says, “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”

Anne Graham Lotz tells the story of the famous author, Robert Louis Stevenson. When Robert was a child, and it was his bedtime, his nanny went to put him to bed. Robert was looking out of his bedroom window, even though it was dark. As she entered the room, she spoke, but he kept staring into the darkness. When she asked him what he was looking at, she suddenly saw “the lamplighter walking down the street, lighting the street lamps. Little Robert responded, ‘Look, Nanny. I’m watching as that man puts holes in the darkness.’” This is a beautiful picture of what Christians are to be in this dark world…we need to put holes in the darkness! GOD has called us to be “salt” and “light” in this world. These students have a lot of influence over each other…and if they are strong in GOD and their faith in JESUS CHRIST, they can have a good and positive influence over their classmates…and not be led astray.

One of the best verses to carry with you into the new school year came from JESUS Himself…Matthew 10:16. JESUS said, “I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”

A special thank you to Fritz and Joy Young for the beautiful, Spirit-led music and to Jason Kritz for leading the prayer, and to all those who took the time to attend.

PRAY!!! And put holes in the darkness!
