Pray and Vote

By Monica Kritz

A “watchman” is a word that is not commonly used today, but it was used hundreds of years ago, even dating back to Bible days. In the book of Ezekiel, a “watchman” was of great importance. A “watchman” was someone responsible for guarding a town or city. They watched for trouble, including armies that were approaching, and sounded an alarm to alert the citizens.

In our current world, “watchmen” are needed. As we face local elections in our town, we need to pray and vote. We also need wisdom to make the right choices. Our standard is The Bible. It is God’s Word to us. What does God say to us in His Word about government?

We start with prayer. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 says, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

*Government is appointed by God. Romans 13:1

*We need leaders who fear God. Exodus 18:21

*Solutions for our town come only from God. Psalm 33:12

*Pray for elections to be honest, fair, and without corruption. Proverbs 16:13

*Pray for the church to repent of sins in our personal lives, as well as in the life of the church as a whole. 2 Chronicles 7:14

*Pray for divine protection over our town during elections. Psalm 91

*Pray, seeking God’s purpose, for our town. Psalm 42:1

*Pray for God’s presence to be experienced in our town. Psalm 16:11

So please, let’s not take our freedoms for granted. We are responsible for our citizens and our future generations. We are responsible for how we handle our freedoms. God has blessed us. Let’s honor Him by protecting our freedoms. If you haven’t registered to vote, do so before October 13. Now…pray and vote!
