RuthFest – A HUGE Success

Ronnie Gregory

Yancey County

WOW!!! Where to start?

The RuthFest Cornbread Competition and Concert was a HUGE success! Over $10,000 was raised from the outpouring of love and support for our organization and the patients/families we serve. We are humbled and so appreciative of the generosity and support from our community. RuthFest was truly a community effort!

There are so many thanks to convey, but thank you seems so inadequate. This event could never have been possible without the area individuals and business sponsors who donated raffle items, silent auction items and/or financial support. Thank you all so much!

Obviously, a Cornbread Competition and Concert must have cornbread entries, judges and music. Thank you to all the awesome cornbread entry participants and judges who had the difficult task of judging 27 different cornbreads! Thank you to Broke Holler and The Mid-Century Rockers for the entertainment. You guys were amazing!

It takes a lot of effort to pull an event like RuthFest off with such great success. To anyone and everyone who volunteered their time and/or efforts in any way; provided delicious food and desserts; attended the event; and/or participated in the raffles and silent auctions, thank you! You guys rock!

Special thanks to the organizers of the event. Lucy Doll, what can we say except We Love You! Vern Grindstaff, Compassionate Care WNC, Director of Development, you did an amazing job. We’re so proud of you!

Thanks to Chad and the crew at the Burnsville Town Center for the use of the facility! You guys were very accommodating and we appreciate it.

Lastly, but most importantly. Thank you Ruth Banks for your positive impact and love for our community. It was so evident from the outpouring of love, testimonials and stories shared throughout the event planning and event itself what an amazing person you were. Randy and Mike, thank you for allowing us to honor Ruth! It was an honor and privilege.

If anyone was left out, please know it wasn’t intentional. We would like to thank everyone personally!!

So now for the Cornbread Competition Winners:

Best in Show: Birthday Cornbread Cake – Faye Presnell
Honorable Mention: Beverly Banks
3rd Place: Jim Edwards
2nd Place: Dan McNicol
1st Place: Kathy Ray

Everyone was a winner!

All proceeds from RuthFest is designated for patient care. No donations are used for administrative expenses. Your generosity helps us care for those within our community with no payer source. We turn no patients away for financial reasons.

I want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you and appreciation to the Staff, Volunteers and Board of Directors of Compassionate Care WNC. You guys amaze me how you unselfishly give of yourselves and always put our patients and families first. Six year recipients of Hospice Honors is a true testimony of the excellence in care you provide daily. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this amazing team.

Plans for next year’s RuthFest will begin soon!!!

Much love and appreciation,

Ronnie Gregory
