Thankful Mama

When I became a mama everything changed. I now had a whole other person who depended on me. Becoming a mama is no doubt the hardest job I’ve ever had to do. There is someone who is always counting on me and needs me. Sometimes it’s hard to be needed so much. This journey into motherhood is nothing like I expected it to be. It’s harder… but it’s so much better than I could have ever imagined.

Sometimes it’s hard to find thanks in the middle of the struggle. It’s hard to give thanks when the baby is up in the middle of the night. It’s hard to find thanks when you have a sink full of bottles to wash. It’s hard to find thanks when you’re comparing yourself to others. It’s hard to find thanks when you’re feeling alone. This may be the toughest, most tiring job, but it’s also the most rewarding. All of these things that might seem hard right now are actually reasons to be thankful. Yes, there might be a huge mess of food to clean up… but we have food to make a mess with. Yes, there’s never-ending laundry… but there are clothes for us to wear. Yes, some mornings are earlier than others… but at least God woke us up for another day.

It’s easy to find discouragement in the moments of our everyday lives. When this happens, it is easy for us to miss all the blessings that God has poured over us.  We often forget how loved by Him we truly are. There will be times in this life that are just plain hard and downright awful. I’m not saying you won’t ever be discouraged again. I’m not saying that your trials are not valid. Being thankful doesn’t mean that everything is perfect and going great in your life. It means that even though everything in your life may not be how you want it to be, you are still finding things to be grateful for. You see, being a mama is hard, but loving your kids is easy. Being a mama is messy, but I thank God for this beautiful mess of a life I get to live. I’m thankful for a family to love. I’m grateful for a job to do. I’m thankful His mercies are new every morning. I’m grateful for a God who I can rely on through it all. Most of all I’m so very grateful and thankful He saw fit for me to be a mama.

November is the month of thanks. It may seem hard to find thanks during your difficult times but we all have plenty of things to be thankful for. We have a Savior who thought of us enough to die for us. I don’t know about you but that right there is enough to be grateful for. I challenge you to turn your complaints into thanks this Thanksgiving season.

“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
