How We Should Come to Jesus

Mark 1:40 says; “And there came a leper to Jesus, beseeching Him, and kneeling down to Him, and saying to Him, if You will, You can make me clean.” Notice several things about this man who came to Jesus. First of all; He Came Earnestly—v40a Verse 40 says that this man came beseeching Him. Do you see this man coming to Jesus for cleansing? He’s coming to Jesus beseeching Him. In other words, he comes to Jesus pleading with Him. There was nothing more important in this man’s life than receiving healing from his leprosy. Would to God that more people could see the need for the healing of their souls as this man saw the need for the healing of his leprosy. Shouldn’t people be pleading with Jesus today to heal their souls, because if they don’t have their souls healed, they will spend eternity separated from God in a place of torment called Hell? But notice also that; He Came Reverently—v40b here in Mark we are told this man came kneeling. He is coming humbly before the Lord of glory. This is what moved Jesus into action. I cannot stress enough in this article the importance of coming to Jesus humbly and reverently. Jesus doesn’t try to stop this man from kneeling before Him, and He doesn’t stop this man from falling on his face before Him. If you really want to be blessed by Jesus, then show Jesus great honor. But notice also that; He Came to Believingly—v40c
I love what this diseased leper said to Jesus. He said, “If You will, You can make me clean.” This old boy truly believed that Jesus could do what no person could do, and that was to cleanse him from his leprosy. Notice also that; He Came Honestly—v40d Notice this old boy doesn’t ask Jesus to heal him. He says, “If You will, You can make me clean.” Do you see what he’s confessing to Jesus? He’s confessing that he’s unclean. He’s not trying to hide his condition. He’s simply being honest about his condition. When we come to meet with Jesus in His house, we need to be honest before Him. We need to say, “Lord, I know I have sinned and I know I’m not right with this person or that person, and I know there are some things in my life and in my heart that shouldn’t be there.” We need to just be honest with ourselves and with God because He already knows it all anyway. Now right here is how each of us should be coming to Jesus on an ongoing basis. We should be coming to Him earnestly—reverently—believingly— honestly. If we could begin applying these four things in our worship of Almighty God, it would radically change the way we worship, and it would radically change the outcome of our worship services. In my humble opinion, that’s really something to think about!
