Love on Women and Families

How beautiful is the Body of Christ!  As I am writing this, we currently have 23 staff, volunteers, and board members plus three more volunteers pending. We also have many churches and individuals in the community who offer their support in a variety of ways.

I am amazed at the team of people God has constructed to love women and families. Truly, He has hand-delivered everyone to us. I joke all the time and say with so many serving, you’d think we would have at least one bad apple, but that isn’t the case! Ages range from teens through the seventies. Many have children and grandchildren; some don’t. Some have experienced a lot of trauma in their lives; some have had an easier road.  Professional backgrounds, personalities, education, economic situations, and church affiliations vary wildly.

I get the privilege of sitting back and watching all these people who may have never crossed paths otherwise, join together to love God and love others. When new people begin with us, I tell them they’d better prepare to be family. We laugh together, cry together, and eat together a lot. Our greatest joy is celebrating one another and praying for each other.

When clients come to us, these amazing people love us completely without judgment. I’ve seen them go above and beyond paying for something a client needs out of their pocket, sometimes stretching out of their comfort zones, and serving many times after hours to make sure everyone is taken care of. Most recently, I watched some of our male volunteers take time out of their day to deliver and set up items at a client’s house. Each one serving has unique talents and gifts God has given them. I’m constantly amazed at how we all fit together. When we serve together the way God meant for us to, it not only shows the world who He is, but it also strengthens our faith and our bond with other brothers and sisters in Christ.

Churches and individuals have been stepping up more and more. I’m getting calls, messages, and visits from people asking, “How can we help? How can we be a part?” From participating in our baby bottle fundraiser to dropping off donations, to cooking for our men’s class, to signing up for our prayer team, to making gift bags for clients and their children…. more and more I am seeing the Body of Christ moving the way she was made to move, and it’s a beautiful sight to behold!
