Darkness So Thick You Can Feel It

When JEHOVAH told Moses to stretch out his hand toward heaven, he did so, because God was going to bring darkness over the land of Egypt for three days. Scripture declares it was thick darkness, “thick darkness which may be felt”, Exodus 10:21,22. Can you imagine darkness so thick you can feel it? No one could see each other, and no one moved about from his place for three days; Exodus 10:23, “They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings”.
This curse of darkness was actually fourfold “physical and spiritual” darkness for the cursed people of Egypt; and “Spiritual and Physical Light” for God’s chosen people. The exception from total darkness was the children (people) of Israel; “but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings”. Our spiritual awareness can see the four-fold physical and spiritual components of the curse. We know that the light was the light of Israel’s Jehovah, our LORD, and Savior Jesus Christ, “the light of the world”. Finally, we are warned, Luke 11:35 “Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness”.
The sun, moon, and stars spiritually reference the gospel. The sun represents Christ as the light of the world. 2 Co 4:4 “The light of the glorious gospel of Christ”, and the moon and stars represent the law of God, the Bible, Jer 31:35 “the ordinances of the moon and stars”.
All the world’s people can see the physical light from the sun, moon, and stars as created by God. Physical light is an earthly blessing to all people. Christians understand the light of the “glorious gospel of Christ”. Darkness is creepy and scares all youngsters. As adults, darkness becomes a physical sample of death and a spiritual reminder of sin; 2 Co 11:14, “Satan the angel of light”. Many people understand that the world is in great tribulation which can only be understood spiritually, often described as spiritual warfare.
Hosea 9:7 “The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity [sin], and the great hatred”. The darkening of the sun and the moon is spiritually referencing the unsaved people of Earth falling away from God’s law, the Gospel. The light of salvation diming (Christ) and coming to an end for the unsaved people of earth.
The scriptures are clear that the sun, moon, and stars are timekeepers for the people of earth. The celestial planets are required for earth’s existence right up to the final day of God’s judgment. Genesis 8:22 “while the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease”. At the end of the world, the last day of earths judgment;” Isa 13:9, “the day of the LORD cometh, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it”. Only at the end of the world, when the final judgment takes place, will the constellations no longer give their light.: “The sun became black as sackcloth of hair, the moon became as blood, the stars of heaven fell to earth, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places”; Rev 6:12,13,14.
Isaiah 13:10,13 “For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger”.
The brightness of Christ’s Glory upon the children of God will manifest itself in a way we cannot understand until that last day of earth’s judgment. Christians are to wait on the LORD in this earth’s darkness of the gospel. “We need to be blameless, harmless, without rebuke, in the midst of a polluted and crooked perverse nation, and shine as lights in the world”, Philippians 2:15.
Jesus said in John 6:38,39, “for I come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me, I shall lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day”.
