The Real Taste of Christmas

By Steve Williams

So many do not know what Christmas is like. They think Christmas is all about shopping for presents, lights, parties, and a few days off from the job. If that is all Christmas is to you it will leave a bad taste in your mouth. That is why so many people fail to enjoy Christmas. They get caught up in all the hoopla and never get a real taste of Christmas. See when you taste something good you don’t forget it and you look for another occasion in which you can experience another taste of what you like or enjoy.

Let’s look at how you can get a real taste of Christmas this season. I know this is not Christmas verse like we usually talk about at Christmas but I believe they will open our eyes to what Christmas is really about. The Bible says in Psalm 34:5-8  “They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. 6  This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. 7  The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. 8  O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”

The best way to taste Jesus this Christmas is to look at Him for who he really is, and that is our Savior and Lord. See when we look at Him that way, this will put a special taste in your heart. V 5 says “They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.” When you get a good look or a taste of the Lord you will not be ashamed of Him but you will want others to get a taste of what you got. Not only do you Look for the Lord, but it tells us in V 6 that we need to cry out to the Lord. (6  “This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.”)  The biggest trouble all of us have is sin continuously trying to overtake us. That is why it is so important to cry out or Pray to the Lord to lighten or reduce our troubles on life’s journey. And when our load is lightened, this also puts a good taste in our hearts. V 7 tells us “The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.” There is a condition to be able to taste the Lord. It says that the Lord’s Angels will encamp around those who fear Him. The Lord circles around those who Love Him, Honor Him, Respect Him, Follow Him, and Serve Him. The Lord delivers His people. You will never be able to experience deliverance or taste of the Lord if you don’t fear Him. That’s why you see so many unhappy people at Christmas is because they have got caught up in a manmade season instead of a God-centered season. When you put the Lord where He is supposed to be at Christmas it leaves a Good Taste in your heart. Now in V 8, an invitation is given. I want to extend this to every person this season. “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”

If you will just trust the Lord during the Christmas season instead of letting the season overwhelm you. It will leave a good taste in your heart and will make your Christmas taste a lot better.

Merry Christmas From Steve and Beverly Williams
