The Perfect Law of Liberty
By Alan Griffin
The only free people in this world are those who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. The words He spoke to us in His Holy Book are ours to cherish for eternity. All else that is available here on earth can be taken away from us. If you have the Word of God in your heart it is yours even after you die. His Word is with you no matter what. They can throw you in prison, they can take all your possessions, they can kill you and bury you in a shallow grave, but they can’t take the Word of God from you. It is ours! “The Spirit of the Lord upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed.” Luke 4:18 NKJV It does not say the rich, the powerful, or the mighty. It says to set us, captives of sin, at liberty from sin. “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” John 8:32,36 NKJV
We are free to do as our heart would guide us. We have the Holy Spirit inside of us to lead us in ways of righteousness. A true believer is not looking for an opportunity to sin. Our greatest desire is to please our King and Savior. We have been called to liberty. As Christians, we are not obligated to anyone. We owe everything that we may achieve to Almighty God. We bow only before Jesus, our Savior, and King. “We are chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but now are the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9-10 NKJV
We are to approach God through His Son. We don’t need a building, a prayer book, an image, a denomination or its leaders, songs, sacrifices, or people talking in tongues, but through our Mediator, Jesus Christ! “For there is God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.” 1 Timothy 2:5 NKJV Our Heavenly Father wants us to come to Him as a son or daughter, and make our petitions known directly to Him so that he can answer our prayers according to His Word. We are living in the wonderful day of grace where Christ alone mediates our longings with His Father. We are saved through His blood, led by His spirit, and kept by His power. We, as sons and daughters of God, have liberty to go before the Father in Christ’s name. We have the perfect law of liberty. “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues it, is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” James 1:23-25 NKJV
The perfect law of liberty is the Word of God. So, we do not go by way of religions, denominations, and abstract interpretations that do not stand up to the rightly divided Word of Truth. We stand with Paul the Apostle when he said, “Let God be true, and every man a liar!” Romans 3:4 NKJV Everything we need to know about God, eternity, heaven, and hell can be found in the perfect law of liberty. We are to abide by its Word and live a life that sets an example for others to follow Christ. We are to do everything the Spirit leads us to do, but we are to test these spirits to be sure we are following the Spirit of God. We test our callings through His Word because it answers every question, it teaches us how to live, and it warns us against false teachings. It tells us to, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” Galatians 5:1 NKJV
Sadly, this is the age of acceptance. Everything is fashionable. Many are experimenting with every kind of foul behavior known to man. We must not mix with these people. We are not to judge, but to set a shining example for all to follow. If anyone, even an angel, preaches any other gospel than what is preached through the Bible let them be accursed. Please understand this friendship with the world is enmity with God. Those Christians who continue to go along with the crowd are God’s worst enemy. They distort the truth for their own pleasure. If anyone comes to you to share with you and does not believe in the doctrine of Jesus Christ, do not let them into your home. Do not offer them any blessing, because you will be a partaker of their evil deeds.
When Adam sinned, he sent all of the creation spiraling down into slavery. Death and the curse of sin came upon all that is on earth. The animals, the plants, the atmosphere, all of us live under the curse. Thanks be to our heavenly Father the last Adam (Our King and Savior Jesus Christ) came to save that which was lost. He, being perfect in every way, took on a body of corruption so that He could pay the price for the sin of the world. …” The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28 NKJV He was tempted in all points just like we are, but He did not sin. He gave His life so that we could receive the perfect liberty of a relationship with our Father without any other interference from others. Just before He passed His spirit back to the Father He said, “It is finished!” Every aspect of the Law of God was fulfilled. The sin-debt was paid, and we were brought back into the fold of God’s family.
Whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Jesus is the chief cornerstone, and there is no other name under heaven whereby you must be saved. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:31 NKJV Yes, we preach the gospel to those who are heartbroken, to those who are blind, to those who are oppressed, and to set at liberty those who suffer in this cruel world. We have been given the perfect law of liberty to be able to enter in the presence of God through our faith in Jesus Christ, not by any other man’s means. We are truly free.
