Praying for Healings

Have you ever been around someone who had a bad headache and you said “let me pray for you brother/sister?” Then we say “Lord I claim healing for my friend, I plead the blood of Jesus over him, and in His name, I command the headache to go away”. That’s an easy prayer. What’s the worst that can happen? The headache doesn’t go away. So what?

Now, what if they have stage four-pancreatic cancer. Do we pray the same prayer for healing? I think our prayer would sound more like “Lord, if it’s your will, please heal my friend of his cancer, nevertheless, your will be done” Does that sound familiar? Why do we pray so boldly when the malady is minor, and so timidly when it’s severe? It’s simple, we’re afraid that if they aren’t healed we’ll look bad.

This brings to mind Chron. 19:11 “ Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight.”

These men were armed, trained to do battle- but they realized the results would have to be left to the Lord. They did what they could, but realized only the Lord could bring about ultimate victory.

We need to have the same attitude when we pray for the sick. I fear our reluctance to pray for the sick because we’re worried that they won’t be healed can be a missed opportunity for God to do a mighty miracle.

If you say to someone “let me pray for you” and you pray the prayer of faith and seek the Lord, you will have done what you can do and what we are encouraged to do in the Scriptures. We simply trust in God and “let the Lord do that which is good in his sight”. The truth of the matter is that they will always be healed, either supernaturally now, or upon their entrance into Heaven.

If they are healed, Great! It’s a cause for celebration. If they are not, it is still pleasing in the sight of the Lord, and a bold prayer will always be appreciated by the person for whom you pray.

Pray for each other, dear saints. And don’t let fear quench your desire or your aggressiveness in prayer.

Selah (think about it)
