The Glory of the LORD

An interesting heavenly event of the star that the wise men (the Magus, or a Magian) followed, which they saw in the east, went before them to find the location of the young child Jesus. On a clear night, if you observe the stars in the sky above they are a great distance away, millions appear in the heavens. The star must have been quite unusual, very low in the sky, because the star was over the house pinpointing where the young child Jesus was, Mathew 2:9-11. Also, The Glory of the LORD, the light of the star, and our gift-giving traditions at Christmas can be spiritually seen in these 3 verses.
Isaiah 9:6 is frequently quoted during the Christmas season. The beautiful Christmas account celebrating the glory and birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, is well known by Christians. We can read this Old Testament prophecy verse in the book of Isaiah; “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”. This single verse alone proves the spectacular truth of other prophesies recorded by Isaiah during his ministry and elsewhere in the Bible.
Hebrews 4:12 “The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than two edged sword”. Isaiah 49:2 “and he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft, in his quiver hath he hid me.”
Waiting on “The Glory of the LORD”, the child of God can only imagine being governed by flawless honor and reputation; perfect goodness with abundant riches in grace and truthfulness defines the word “glory”; that’s only a small part of “The Glory of the LORD”. “Arise, shine; for the light is come [Christ], and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee;” Isaiah 60:1.
The Glory of the LORD shone round about them and the shepherds were afraid. “The angel of the Lord said fear not, for unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the LORD; “ Luke 2:9-11.
“For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea;” Habakkuk 2:14. Sadly, the next verse is a woe dealing with anyone assisting with their neighbor’s [friend, companion] drunkenness; all forms of (spiritual/physical deception). “Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power;” 2 Thessalonians 1:9.
Absolute terror is experienced by Ezekiel, Joshua, and others at the brightness of the Lord’s Glory; as the brightness around a rainbow; drops them to the ground with their face in the dirt. Saul describes the Lord’s brightness from heaven “above the brightness of the sun”; that intensity of brightness forces him and his companions to the earth; Acts 26; 13, 14.
The first biblical record of the Glory of the Lord being seen by the children of Israel is after the Lord has brought them out from under the law of Egyptian slavery. “And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the Lord; for that he heareth your murmurings against the Lord: and what are we, [the LORD & Moses] that ye murmur against us?” Exodus 16:6&7.
The Glory of the Lord appears to the congregation of Israel in a cloud covering mount Sanai for six days; “And the sight of the Glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel; Exodus” 24:17.
Moses, having received grace from the Lord, requests to see the glory of the Lord on mount Sanai before receiving the ten commandants. And Moses said, “I beseech thee, show me thy glory”. And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift, [crevice] on a rock [Christ], and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by. And I will take away my hand, and thou shall see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen; for there shall no man see me, and live;” Exodus 33:17-23. “And when Aaron saw Moses after he came down from the mount, the skin of his face shined;” Exodus 34:30.
Handel’s “Messiah” a musical masterpiece containing “And the Glory of the Lord” is based on Isaiah 40:5;” And the Glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.”
