Being Faithful in a Sinful World
By Dean Honeycutt

Over the past decade, we have experienced chaos and confusion. Political unrest like the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Riots in major cities across the U.S. bring civil unrest and violence. The high cost of living. The war in Gaza and Ukraine. The chaos and confusion on college campuses over the sovereignty of Israel. Two assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump. School shootings and gender identity debates and confusion. Owning a home is unaffordable for many Americans. The sin and the ongoing debate of abortion. Life stops when the heartbeat stops, and life begins at conception when the heart starts beating. Life is a gift from God. And those who kill the unborn or support abortion are in direct opposition to God. All these things and more leave us wondering what the future holds for Christian people.
The point is that we live in a very unstable and chaotic world. Sin abounds and chaos and confusion seem to rule the day. I am grateful that these troubling times disturb me because they tell me that God is working in my life and righteousness is always on the lookout for ungodliness. So, we are living in an ungodly nation that has forsaken the righteous ways of the Lord. People who live by God’s word are not surprised by the unrighteousness that is in our world today. And it bothers us because it is in opposition to what is in our hearts and the way we try to live.
The current moral condition of our nation is not unique to my generation. The Bible describes eras in history where believers have experienced moral corruption and chaos. Furthermore, God’s word describes the end times as perilous and a great falling away from God. Are we currently living at the end of the age? Absolutely believers should expect the imminent return of Christ. Jesus said, “Surely I come quickly.”
So, what do we do to still be faithful in a fallen world? The answer to the question is we stay faithful. Christ will return and receive the faithful. The Bible is a book of faith. Ephesians 2:8 8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” Be faithful. Be faithful to your Savior, family, and your church. Ask yourself what you want Christ to find you doing when he returns for you.
Thank the Lord for your faithfulness. The Lord is watching. We just keep plugging on for the Lord. We have set our hand to the plow, and we are not looking back. We have taken up our cross and followed Jesus. We have been in the storm and our eyes and faith remain on Jesus. We have faced goliath-sized problems, and we have trusted in the Lord to fight the battle.
We are watching and waiting for our Savior. Thank you, Lord, that you are in control. Chaos and confusion do not hinder you. Wars and rumors of wars do not stop you. Look up dear child of God our redemption draws near.
In His hands,
Pastor Dean Honeycutt
