Deception: A Wake-Up Call

By Steve Williams

Mitchell CountyPastor Steve Williams Mitchell County

Howdy,

Have you ever got one of those solicitation phone calls? Where the person on the other end is with a credit card company.  The person will say something like this, “I’m happy to let you know that you have been selected or qualified for a New VISA card. We want you to know that we have raised the limit on your card to 25,000.00 dollars, it would be our honor to send you this card today. You will now be on our preferred customers list.

The conversation might leave a person feeling pretty good about themselves. Oh, I’m worthy of 25,000.00, or wow I’m now a Preferred Customer, or I’m somebody! But dear brothers and sisters here is what they don’t tell you. If you simply use the limit and spend 25,000.00,  we will own you for the rest of your life. They fail to tell you that they are going to tack on another 20% to everything you purchase. What’s happened? I’ll tell you what happened you have Been Taken, Snookered, Deceived, and Took Advantage Of, by listening to what they have told you.

There are people today all over the world who are owned by Satan. Satan may have whispered into their ear and told them, to just take one pill, or just take one smoke, or take one sniff, or just one drink. But what he didn’t say is that he would own you. That is what Satan does. he captures us with a thought.

If we were all truthful we all have been deceived by Satan, we have listened to his reason, and we have allowed it to make sense because it sounded good. We as Christians need to remind ourselves of the old saying, “If it sounds too good to be true it probably is” I have found out in this world that you can’t always believe what you hear or what you see.

It’s like this, duck hunters like to use decoys. The decoys quack like a duck, move like a duck, and look like a duck, and act like a duck. The ducks end up being dead ducks because they can’t tell what’s real. And for the Christians, there are many roving decoys that Satan sets out there and their job is to deceive us from the intimate experience of our faith. We must look beyond what a person says or how they perform to determine their authenticity. We must evaluate and test the spirits. We must be on guard for decoys and deception of Satan. He is always trying to fool us and take us down, just like Duck hunters take down ducks. So be careful about what you listen to, what you look at, and how you live your life.
