How does one grieve the Holy Spirit?
Look back at Ephesians because usually, the best way to answer a question is in the context of where the first part of the question was prompted in our lives.
Ephesians 4:30 says don’t grieve the Holy Spirit. If you are inductively studying the Bible, using a proper hermeneutic, you are looking at the wider context. Paul starts in Ephesians 4:22, talking about "put off concerning your former conduct… be renewed".
These are all infinitives, not commands. They’re statements of what God has done. God has already made us new creations, so we should live out what he has provided. We can be renewed as verse 23 of chapter 4 of Ephesians and verse 24 says. God has given us everything we need in Christ we should put it on.
