Boeing gets a lifeline while all of their troubles continue to mount.

Korean Air has announced plans to purchase up to 50 highly fuel-efficient widebody airplanes from Boeing. This includes 20 777-9s and 20 787-10s, with options for an additional 10 of the largest 787 Dreamliner variant. This acquisition aims to support the airline’s fleet growth and renewal, enhancing its capacity to service high-demand markets in Europe, North America, and Asia.

The new aircraft will provide Korean Air with increased operational efficiency and passenger comfort while significantly reducing carbon emissions. The 777-9 can seat 426 passengers and has a range of 13,500 km, while the 787-10 can carry up to 336 passengers over 11,730 km. The 777-9 incorporates advanced technologies from the 787 Dreamliner family, achieving 10% better fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions compared to competitors. The fuel efficiency of the 787 has helped operators avoid more than 169 billion pounds of CO2 emissions since entering service.

Korean Air’s selection of these Boeing models underscores its commitment to sustainable aviation and providing a top-tier flying experience. The new aircraft will feature advanced business class suites and onboard Wi-Fi, maintaining the airline’s status as a leading global carrier.

Korean Air’s Aerospace Division currently supplies components for the 787 program and produces parts for other Boeing models, including the 737 MAX, 767, and 777. This purchase further solidifies the long-standing partnership between Korean Air and Boeing.
