Miracles in Mitchell and Yancey Counties

Mitchell County
We’ve been told our area experienced a geological event as a result of a flood of Biblical proportions. From the very beginning, I’ve kept thinking this: Flood of Biblical proportions equals miracles of Biblical proportions. It’s the way God works. His specialty is to make beauty from ashes. I love how our Father is an expert at flipping the script. When we look at a situation and have no clue how something good can possibly come out of it, there He goes again.
As we collectively continue trying to wrap our brains around the destruction and devastation, we keep seeing glimpses of rainbows: The unthinkable that “almost” happened, the physical supplies we are blessed with to overflowing, the countless individuals, ministries, and organizations who have rushed to our aid from all over the country, the way the community has taken care of each other, our first responders, DOT workers, and Linemen…so many amazing blessings amid overwhelming loss. Blessings don’t negate the agony, but our God never wastes our pain.
We didn’t experience major damage, but the pregnancy center was impacted by the storm. Our bottom floor flooded, and we were closed for several weeks due to a lack of power. We also had to cancel our inaugural fundraising banquet. When I looked around, I saw many who lost so much more than we did. Our obstacles seemed small in comparison.
Through it all, we saw the hand of God. A generator was donated and set up for us. Our floor dried out, and there are no traces of mold. We had so many reach out asking how they could help, bringing supplies, and sending monetary donations. We were also blessed to discover all our clients, staff, and volunteers survived the storm.
Those blessings alone would have been plenty, but God wasn’t through! As a direct result of the storm, we were contacted by The Pregnancy Network in Greensboro about a mobile RV ultrasound unit they wanted to donate. Honestly, a mobile unit wasn’t even on our radar, but God has big plans! Transportation has always been an issue for our clients. Now, we can go to them!
Exactly six weeks after Helene hit our area, we drove to Greensboro and picked up Birtha the mobile ultrasound RV. The Pregnancy Network didn’t stop at just giving us the vehicle. They stocked it, put our logo and information on the outside, secured a donation to cover our insurance, trained us, fed us, loved on us, and prayed over us. We not only gained an RV, but we also gained friends for life. The very same day, a local church stepped up and covered brand-new tires and a full tune-up for Birtha as well.
All of us in WNC are going to have God stories to tell for years to come. The scripture that talks about Him being an ever-present help in times of trouble has never rung more true. Look up. There are rainbows all around us, and He’s not done yet!
