Hello Everyone,
Please note that on Saturday morning, October 27th the first Annual Mitchell County State Of The Child Conference will be held. The location will be Bear Creek Baptist Church, 327 Bear Creek Church Road, Bakersville. The event will begin at 8:30am with light refreshments. The actual Conference will begin at 9:00am and will conclude with a lunch at Noon for all attendees.
The purpose of the Conference is to provide very important information about what children and youth in Mitchell County are being exposed to and having to deal with on a regular basis. Agencies such as the Health Department, Social Services, Board of Education, Sheriff’s Department along with many others will conduct breakout sessions. A few of the topics which will be discussed include:
*How to spot drug use and what to do if drugs are being used.
*Health Issues and Concerns – what to be aware of and how to protect our children.
*Criminal Activities – what to be aware of and how to avoid them.
*Education Needs – how to help students obtain the best education possible.
During the last thirty minutes of the Conference attendees will be able to visit booths which will provide materials for further information.
Those needing to attend this Conference include parents, church youth and children’s leaders, educators, daycare workers and those interested in being a part of the solution in helping protect and care for our greatest resource: youth and children.
