Power to Fight our Battles

By Christy Young

Mitchell CountyChristy Young

I think we all can agree that we’re in a battle in this world.  We may not always see it, and often times forget that we are in the battle but will quickly be reminded that it’s there.  If you are a believer, Satan is constantly on your back.  He finds great pleasure in filling our minds with discouragement and defeat.  Bringing fear, stress, and hardship to our lives.  I can attest that I personally deal with these things often.  The stronger my desire to serve God, the more I realize the evidence of the evil forces of Satan.

Folks we live in spiritual warfare!   God reminds us in His word to be aware of Satan’s schemes, to be alert, and to stay close to Him.  James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”  How do we submit ourselves to God?  He arms us with a sword, His Word, the Bible.  In His word, He instructs us to stand against the enemies’ lies.  As we ground ourselves in His Word, we gain wisdom, discernment, and courage to fight our battles.  Standing strong and using good judgment during a storm can often be hard.  Sometimes our flesh takes control and our actions don’t always line up with the word of God.  But the Bible teaches us in 1 Peter 5:8-9, “Be self-controlled and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm in the faith.”  The enemy comes to destroy us, using the things we hold most dear.  He wants us to feel defeated and depleted of our self-worth.  But our self-worth is not found in our worldly accomplishment, but in Jesus alone!  We are His servants and placed upon this earth to carry out His perfect plan.  Let us be reminded that we must seek God’s Truth, asking Him to reveal what is real and not be blinded by Satan’s lies.

As Christians, we will be torn down and judged by others. It is easy to follow out Christ-like behavior when we are on top of the mountain, but when storms rage our flesh can sometimes take control.  How we react to false accusations and adversity will define our character.  In Isaiah, 54:17, “No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; and every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn.  This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their vindication is from Me, “declares the Lord.”

Pray that God will bring darkness into light and His truth will forever be seen.  Put on the full armor of God, realizing that we are stronger than any force of evil in the presence and powerful name of Jesus.  He never leaves us to defend ourselves in darkness, and may we all be reminded that He is constantly fighting for us, even when we cannot see.  Remember Prayer + Gods Word = Power to Fight our Battles.
