Resolutions or Words

Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a trend right around the New Year. Instead of making resolutions, a lot of people choose a word or phrase to define the coming year. I’ve heard people say their word is Strength, Growth, Wonder, or even Humility to name a few.
Personally, I don’t do resolutions or words. This year though, God had other plans. He gave me a song. When I first heard it, I couldn’t stop playing it. I couldn’t get it out of my head. I shared it with our staff and volunteers, and it has quickly become our prayer; our anthem for 2024 and beyond.
“Take It All Back” By Tauren Wells and We the Kingdom is phenomenal. Do yourself a favor and look it up. I promise you won’t regret it!
In the song, it talks about taking back what the enemy of our souls has stolen from us. As Christians, we can claim this promise as our own, and it’s definitely exciting! When I think about our clients and all the enemy of our souls has stolen from them, this song takes on a different meaning though. Most of the clients we serve have experienced at least one of these: trauma, loss, addiction, parents and children torn apart, homelessness, abuse…and the list goes on.
When I look at these women, I don’t pity them. I see warriors waiting to rise up, silence the lies they have believed, and take back what the enemy has stolen from them. Our God is an expert at giving beauty for ashes, strength for fear, gladness for mourning, and peace for despair.
At the Center, we get to walk alongside clients and share with them about the only One who can set them free. We had a client walk into our Center and tell us she’d been far away from God. She said it felt like the hits just kept on coming into her life, and she knew the only way out was to get back into a relationship with Jesus. Something kept on telling her to come here. Do you know what led her to this point? Diapers and Christmas boxes….love and lack of judgment. The Gospel was offered with open hands.
I shared the song with her and told her I firmly believed God gave me the song for the Center, but it was for her too. I found myself thinking we are going to see more and more of this as the months roll by. People are hungry for answers. They are tired of the lies. They need to know because of Jesus they have the power to get back their peace, joy, innocence, and self-worth.

As we celebrate our 30th year in operation, we invite you to link arms with us, walk with us, and help us reclaim what the enemy has stolen. Take it all back: Not part, not a few, ALL.
