Q:  My life has been hard, and I’m only 26 years old. I was born to an unmarried mother who gave me up without even seeing me and the rejection has been unbearable. Why does God allow some people to be born as accidents, and is there something God can do to make me feel worthwhile? The loneliness is overwhelming and the parental abandonment is horrible, and it has led me to a place where all I care about is finding peace—somewhere. I know that selfishness is a sin, but I don’t know how to change it.

A:  From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Long before the world was created, God knew all about every person born. From eternity, we were part of His plan. No one is here by accident or by chance. No one has a choice about being born—but God is still the Giver of life. He’s the Creator of everything. We came from Him—and our greatest joy will come from giving ourselves back to Him. God desires to have a personal relationship with us. This is why He came from Heaven, to show us His great love.

There are multitudes of lonely people who carry heavy and difficult burdens of grief and pain. God calls out to people everywhere to repent of sin and commit their lives to Him. Christ will forgive us, fill us with joy, and take us into His family.

God sends forth His message of love, but we must tune in. We must be willing to listen and to receive His message and then obey it. When Christ’s love fills our hearts, it puts selfishness on the run.

Each person has a decision to make. Will we turn away from God, or will we turn toward Him? Which road will we take? One road leads to doubt, anger, bitterness, fear, hopelessness, and despair. The other road leads to hope, comfort, peace, strength, and joy.
