A United Airlines flight from Houston to Boston was unexpectedly diverted to Washington, DC after an onboard incident described as a “biohazard” left several crew members and passengers feeling ill. The incident occurred on Flight 2477, departing from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Sunday morning.

The situation escalated when a passenger became seriously ill, causing a reaction among others on the flight. The severity of the incident led crew members to start vomiting, and passengers began requesting masks. The distress among those onboard was significant enough for the pilots to seek an emergency landing for immediate “deep cleaning” of the aircraft.

Audio recordings from the flight revealed a crew member communicating with the ground, stating, “I talked to the crew and it sounds like it’s quite bad back there. The crew is vomiting, and passengers all around are asking for masks.” The urgency of the situation was emphasized further, with the crew member adding, “With this kind of being a biohazard I think we need to get this plane on the ground asap.”

The flight was successfully diverted and landed safely at Washington Dulles Airport. Despite the alarming situation, none of the 155 passengers or six crew members required medical attention upon landing.
