Former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont has returned to Spain, following seven years in exile after leading the failed 2017 Catalan Independence referendum.
Regional police, the Mossos D’Esquadra, said it intended to obey court orders to arrest him and will limit access to the Palace of the Catalan Parliament to ensure he does not attend.
At 10am local time/9am (BST), the Catalan parliament will debate and vote on the formation of a minority Socialist government with Salvador Illa expected to be named regional president.
