What Do You See?

We see what we are prepared to see! Have you ever looked for something and couldn’t find it while someone else went right back to where you looked and found it in a few moments? Was there something wrong with your eyes? Probably not! You did not perceive with your mind what your eyes actually saw. There was a blind spot for some reason. The problem is that we are looking for one thing and all the other things that are not that one thing distracts us from that one thing.

The brain must be trained to ‘see’ the spiritual. It is the illumination produced by the Holy Spirit that enables us to see the things freely given to us by our Father. Our mind must be renewed through the word of God which is illuminated by the Spirit. There is no easy way to experience the things of the Lord. We live in a fast-paced, impatient, self-centered world. If we attempt to live for Jesus under our culture’s guidelines for success, we will experience frustration, despair, and doubt that what we have been taught is true. Our profession of faith will not be a reality in our life. We will tend to put Jesus on the back burner while we chase the American dream. The enemy is a master deceiver and he is a smooth talker. He convinces us that this world is all there is and if we don’t follow the world’s pattern for the fulfillment, we will have a miserable life. Our minds are easily consumed by the things of the flesh. If we do not actively engage in training and disciplining our mind, it will remain in the valley of the shadow of death, refusing to cooperate with the life-giving light of the Spirit Which is commissioned to reveal the glory of God to His children. The Holy Spirit must have complete control of our minds if we are to have sharp spiritual sight.

He is the preparer and the illuminator, but we must cooperate by giving Him full access to our minds, and obeying the precepts of Scripture. When we submit to these principles, our spiritual sight will be crystal clear. We will be able to ‘see’ those things that God has prepared for us. Keep in mind that the devil has some things prepared for us, as well. His goal is to keep our focus on carnal, earthly things. If he can keep our eyes on the things that are in contrast to spiritual things, we will never enjoy an intimate relationship with our heavenly Father in this life and we will never fulfill our purpose in the kingdom of God, never experiencing the joy of producing fruit for the glory of God. We will forfeit numerous blessings that could be ours. However, if our minds and hearts are fully aligned with the heavenly Father’s, we will ‘see’ the many blessings and fulfilled promises surrounding our lives. He is the Giver of all good things and ‘seeing’ with a renewed mind will only result in a life of thanksgiving and praise to the One in Whom we live and move and have our being!
