What Ever It Takes

What Ever It Takes. These are words we hear a lot of times in life. Do we really mean them?

I heard about a man who was 40 years old and had never been married. He was fixing to fly out on a business trip. Before he left his mother was hounding him. “when are you going to bring me a wife? I want a grandchild and you ain’t even got married yet.” Well, he was too shy to even ask anybody out, but he said to himself that he was going to do whatever it took to get himself a beautiful woman to date him and marry him.

Well, he got to the airport and checked in. He waited in the airport to board the plane. As he was boarding the plane he saw a beautiful young lady sitting in 1st class.  He said to himself, she’s beautiful.  If I ever have seen a lady I’d like to marry, this is the lady I’d love to marry. It’s got to be love at first sight he thought. So he sat down and said to himself I know she has probably heard a 1000 pickup lines.  I have got to think of a new one.  He said I know what I’ll do, I’ll go up to her and tell her that I’m a reporter and that I’m writing a story on what beautiful women are looking for in a man. When she tells me I’ll be that man. So he walked up sat down and said. “I notice you’re an attractive young lady and I am writing a major story for a major magazine.   I’d just like to know what beautiful young ladies like you find attractive in a man. “She said I never thought about it but I’ll be glad to do the interview.

She said the first thing I’d look for is that Indian look, dark skin, and straight jawbone. So he said well OK, and wrote down on a notepad Indian. He said to himself, “This is going to be harder than I thought.” Is there anything else? Oh Yes, I like the Jewish man. You know he’s going to take care of the money and finances and if something happens and he dies, he’ll have made provisions for you.

He said to himself Indian, and Jewish man. He said I’m scared to ask is there anything else? She said ya, but I’m embarrassed to say. I’ve never said this out loud but there is something about that southern redneck, that has that big truck with big tires, coming down the road with a gun rack in the back window. There’s just something that makes you feel safe being with that guy. He looked at His notes; Indian, Jewish man, Southern Redneck. “She said I hate to ask this: He looked at her and she looked at him, “I’m so embarrassed, here I am telling you everything about me and what I find attractive about a man, and I don’t even know your name. He quickly looked down at his notes, Indian, Jewish Man, Southern Redneck, and he looked at her and he said “My name is:  GeronimoGoldstein, but my friends just call me Bubba. Whatever it takes that’s the key. This old boy was serious about doing whatever it took to catch this lady. Even if it took being an Indian, Jewish man, and a Southern Redneck.

That’s what’s wrong with so many Christians today they are not willing to do whatever it takes to get themselves out of the mess they find themselves in. They are willing to do whatever they want to do, to satisfy themselves, but not willing to do whatever it takes to get out of the mess. Their problem is they want to get out of the mess or trouble in the snap of a finger. Friends, it doesn’t work like that. See they fail to remember that it took them a good while to dig the hole that they find themselves in. They fail to understand It takes time to get there and it will take time to get out.

It’s time for Christians to step up to the plate and be willing to do whatever it takes to get their lives right and get serious about trying to change this messed up world we are living in. We look back in history and we see that our forefathers were willing to do whatever it took to give us the freedom, that we experience today. So the shoe is now on our foot. Are we willing to do whatever it takes to keep our freedom and help other people come to know Christ? What’s happened to the determination of Christians?
