Seasons

Any outdoorsman knows the excitement of the beginning of a new season. Whether the season is fishing, turkey, small game, deer, etc., the anticipation of whatever season we enjoy always causes some excitement. We look forward to new adventures outdoors and of course hope for success. Dreams of catching the big fish, listening to the beagles “burn up” a rabbit, the sudden thundering of a boss gobbler on the roost, or seeing that trophy buck come into view and give you a shot. Those are all things the outdoorsmen dream about waiting for a new season to start.
Preparation is always on our minds as we look forward to the start of the season. Deer hunters scout the woods for signs, plant food plots to attract deer to the area, hang tree stands, or build blinds to get ready for opening day. Most will practice with their bows, sight in their rifles, and even exercise regularly to get in shape for walking in the mountains or long treks to remote places. All these activities are brought on because we are looking forward to the start of a new season.
Here in western North Carolina, deer season came to an end on January 1st. The excitement we felt at the start is sometimes replaced by a little sadness knowing it’s coming to an end. Some of us had success and others not so much. There may even be some glad it’s over! Wives especially! Others have hunted hard and are tired and looking forward to sleeping in a little. However, we may feel, that a true outdoorsman will almost always start thinking of the next season that’s coming. For myself, I’ll be counting down the days till the spring turkey season. A bonus for the avid outdoorsmen is that with the ending of one season, there’s always another season coming to look forward to.
Such are the seasons of life. I’ve always tried to look at life in terms of seasons. There are seasons that we live through that are just a part of living. Some we enjoy and miss when they are gone such as when our children are no longer at home. Others, like getting older, we aren’t too excited about. However, in that season may come grandchildren and the blessing of a growing family. Some seasons bring hardship, even mourning the loss of loved ones. Other seasons bring new babies that speak life and excitement to our families. Seasons come and seasons go, this is just all a part of living.
Whether a season is ending, starting, or we’re in the middle of it, we can always trust Jesus is there through them all. The seasons of life change with the flow of time but Jesus is the same regardless. He’s there to praise for the good seasons and there to see us through the hard seasons.
As we have started a New Year with new seasons ahead, let us remember that regardless of what season comes, Jesus will see us through it all. Prepare and trust the Lord for all the seasons of life.
