Joy comes in the morning, especially if we take time in our secret place to spend time with our Savior.  All that remains of yesterday are the memories.  Those memories can be good or bad, depending on the situations.  Yesterday was the one-year anniversary of my mother’s death and some of my memories revolve around that this morning.

Our memories do tend to shape our future and that can be good or bad, depending to a large degree on what we let our minds dwell on in those memories.  We can focus on the failures, the hurts, the disappointments or we can focus on the bright spots.  Yes, we always have both of these memories, but we must take time to filter them out.  If you are old enough you will remember old flour sifters of years gone by. You poured the flour in the sifter and turned the little handle to sift out the chaff or hulls that were left from the milling.  We all have hulls of sadness left from yesterday that we need to sift out and throw into the garbage, not use it to cook with but to discard it.

So many times, we spend all our thought time thinking about the hulls and hurts, the disappointments rather than the flour that creates the dough, the dough that makes the bread of life worthwhile.  Guard your mind and your memories, cleanse your mind of the discouragements of yesterday and focus on the lilies of the day that you had yesterday, and your today will tend to be much brighter.

Psalms 63:1-7

“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.”

Take time each day to give thanks for the little things, the memories that are pleasant, ask God to help you erase the pain of the hurts from yesterday and to look forward to the blessings of today.  Let your eyes, mind, and focus be on this, the day that the Lord hath made and rejoice in the path in front of you each day, forgetting the hurts and failures that are behind. ?❤️
