Showers

The month of April always reminds me of the little rhyme that says: ‘April showers bring May flowers.’ Showers are conducive to growth because without water a plant will wither and die.
The Bible compares the Spirit of God to rivers of living water and in John 7:37-39, Jesus declared that anyone thirsty could come to Him, believe, and drink from the river that would never run dry. Our withered soul thirsts for the power and the presence of the Spirit and our Father desires to shower His people with this gift. Once a believer learns to drink continually from the river of God, this life-giving water begins to supernaturally pour into the lives of others.
Unbelievers are given the opportunity to observe life as God intended it to be lived. The Kingdom of God has come near to those who previously had no idea it existed. Unfortunately, many believers have failed to tap into this source of abundant life, therefore their lives are filled with despair and defeat, rather than joy and victory. Depending solely on the efforts of the flesh results in a dry and dusty faith with no power to overcome the schemes of the devil. Unbelievers see no difference in the lives of these thirsty Christians and the opportunity to offer the water of life is lost. However, there is good news for those who find themselves dehydrated. The remedy is simple: ask the Father for a fresh downpour of the Holy Spirit. Confess the thirst of your soul and prepare for a deluge.
God is doing a new thing in our day and time, and we are not to focus on the past, but on the future. Isaiah 44:3 is a promise to the children of God. “For I will pour out water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring and My blessing on your descendants”. On the day of Pentecost, Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke to a multitude. That river of living water flowed from his spirit into the streets of Jerusalem. Lives were transformed in a moment through the power of the Holy Spirit.
The end-time prophecies of the Bible are being fulfilled almost daily, indicating that our time could be short on planet Earth. The fields are ripe for harvest; the laborers are few. Jesus’ words should prompt immediate action from His followers, but there must first be a baptism of the Holy Spirit in the lives of every believer. May we experience the prophecy of Joel 2:28-29 quoted by Peter on the day of Pentecost: “And it shall be in the last days,’ God says, ‘that I will pour forth of My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; even on My bondslaves, both men and women, I will in those days pour forth of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy.” Ask for the showers…the downpour of the Spirit. Then let the river of God flow forth!
