On Christ the solid Rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand

By Dean Honeycutt

Why do I build sandcastles at the beach or do something constructive with the sand? Because it is there, and I do not have anything better to do. I do not like just sitting at the beach, especially during my younger self I had to be doing something. One time I planted a trunk of a tree that had washed up on shore. It was about six and a half feet long and I planted it in the sand like it was growing there. People would walk by and look puzzled as to how did that tree get there. Sometimes I dig big holes in the sand large enough to set a chair down in it. Sometimes we build large sandcastles with tunnels and motes with roads and houses. I get bored so I play in the sand. The little plastic shovels will not hold up to the strenuous task, so I bring a real shovel.

But all my efforts are futile. Because we come back the next day and all my work has been washed away by the high tide. But I will do it again. I know the sand is not going to withstand the oncoming tide, but I enjoy working and playing with the sand even though I cannot stop the high tide.

God has promised us victory in Jesus Christ. He never promised life would be easy or without difficulty. He did promise that He would never leave us or forsake us. He promised that our relationship with Him is like an anchor both sure and steadfast. What I may perceive as futile in our fallen world and the hightide of moral depravity will not discourage me from serving the Lord.

I will not place my hope on sinking sand but on my Rock Jesus Christ for which the gates of hell will not prevail. As Eve is the body and bride of Adam, the Church is the body and Bride of Christ. God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep, and while Adam was asleep God Opened up Adam’s side and removed one of his ribs. From this rib God made woman. Adam said Eve is now “bone of my bones” and “flesh of my flesh”. What a beautiful picture of the union between husband and wife.

Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and as His lifeless body hung on the cross by the “determinate counsel” of God a soldier pierced the side of Jesus, and from His side came blood and water. We are redeemed by the precious blood of Christ and washed from our sins in His own blood. The Bible says, “Husbands love your wives even as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it; that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word.” Jesus said to him who is thirsty I will give to him the fountain of the water of life freely. Therefore, we are united with Christ by His blood and water. What a beautiful truth of Christ’s love for the Church.

The church is the Bride of Christ and one day Christ will receive His glorious church without spot or wrinkle, holy and without blemish. This is a perfect church. On earth, we have our problems in our churches. That is because imperfect people are in them. But the church that Christ will rapture will be perfect. No sin or sinful people will enter heaven. Flesh and blood will not inherit the Kingdom of God. On that great and glorious day at the trump of God the dead in Christ shall rise first and then those who are alive shall be caught up (raptured) to meet the Lord in the air and there we will forever be with the Lord. In the twinkling of the eye and at the last trump we shall be changed this corruptible body will be clothed with an everlasting body never to die. In my glorified body, I will live forever in my forever home with Jesus my Savior.

Thank the Lord I have a secure salvation, that Jesus worked for and gave His life for. On the cross, Jesus said,” It is finished.” His payment for sin is now fulfilled and sealed in time and eternity. Nothing in heaven or earth, no power anywhere or at any time can destroy the finished work of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

To God be the Glory,

Pastor Dean
