The Power of Prayer

Prayer is the most powerful spiritual discipline we can practice. It reaches the ends of the earth. It changes eternal destinies as well as daily lives. It brings emotional healing and reconciliation. If ever we needed prayer, it is now. When we pray under the anointing of the Spirit, anything can happen. When we pray, we must believe that all the promises of God are Yes and Amen in Jesus Christ, regardless of what we see happening in the world in which we live. Let’s trace the truths that will build our faith:

  1. Full Assurance

Our faith begins with full assurance of our salvation, and our personal relationship with Christ. Our salvation hinges on the promises of God. John 3:16 promises that “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Ephesians 2:8-9 promises “For by grace you have been saved by faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Full assurance is essential for living a victorious, abundant Christian life.

  1. Full Access

Once we are followers of Christ, we must understand that we have full access to the presence of God.

Ephesians 2:18 promises that “through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.”

This access was provided by the sacrifice of Jesus. As He was hanging on the cross, moments before He committed His spirit to the Father, He said, ‘It is finished.’ When He died, the veil of the Temple was torn from top to bottom.

Jesus went behind the heavenly veil as a forerunner and placed His own blood on the mercy seat to atone for the sins of mankind. John the Baptist was the forerunner of the Messiah. He preached a message of repentance, calling people to turn from their sins for the kingdom of heaven was at hand. As our forerunner, Jesus has prepared us for access into the very presence of God.

Hebrews 4:16 promises this: “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

We must be 100% secure in our relationship with the Lord and we must have confidence in our ability to enter His presence daily if we are going to experience an extreme breakthrough in prayer.

How often are we exercising this privilege?

  1. Full Authority

God’s word promises us time and time again that we will experience answers to our prayers when we pray in faith, according to God’s will. Praying in this manner guarantees us full authority in the spirit realm to ask for anything.

Mark 11:23-24 promises “Truly I (Jesus) say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea’, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. Therefore, I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted to you.”

As we stand firm on the full assurance of our salvation and tap into our full access to the presence of God, we will begin to pray with full authority under the power of the Spirit, confident that God will answer our prayers. Our love for the Father will explode and our intimacy with Him will deepen until we experience what the Bible calls the

  1. Full Measure

Ephesians 3:19 is part of Paul’s prayer for every believer in which he asks the Father to strengthen us with power through His Spirit so that we might know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge and be filled up to all the fullness of God.

The word ‘fullness’ in verse 19 is the Greek word ‘pleroma’ and it means ‘what fills or what is filled; to make full, fill, fill up; generally, of grace and God’s provisions’.

God longs to fill us to overflowing with His grace and love. We can experience the fullness of God. These truths should draw us to the feet of Jesus and set our prayer lives on fire!
