Jesus is the Lighthouse

Psalm 46:1-3 reads “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge”.
It’s no secret that we are living in turbulent times. Simply turn on the news to see the political divide, the natural disasters, grumblings of war, and a global pandemic that has swept over the world. All too often, people see this and may crumble and turn away from their faith rather than dive deeper into the promises that God has made to us.
Simply look to Psalm 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation-so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?”
Even faced with literal death and uncertainty, Daniel stood steadfast in his faith when told he could no longer pray to God for 30 days. Daniel continued to pray daily and was thrown into the lion’s den for his disobedience. When morning came, the king rushed to the den to find Daniel still alive and he said (Daniel 6:22) “My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight. And I have not wronged you, Your Majesty”.
In Genesis 7:13 God says to Noah “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth!” Then Genesis 7:17-18 reads “Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing that breathes. Everything on earth will die. But I will confirm my covenant with you. So enter the boat – you and your wife and your sons and their wives.”
Now take a moment to sit back and put yourself into each situation and think how you would feel. How you would react? What is going through your mind at the very moment you’re thrown into the lions’ den? What is going through your mind when God says he is going to destroy all living creatures?
All too often, people would tremble, crumble, possibly even faint under the magnitude of this, or worse yet, they would turn away from their faith and possibly blame God for their current situation. Instead, in these instances, you should completely turn yourself over to God as your guiding light and protector.
In John 8:12, Jesus states “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Here Jesus is declaring his divine identity and declaring his purpose as the light of the world as the sole spiritual truth to humans. Even when we are in the deepest, darkest abyss, Jesus will shine a light to guide us to his truth.
Psalms 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path”.
